Growing grapes + making wine in Tasmania’s Coal River Valley since 1999
Brinktop was born when we purchased a farm called Killara on the other side of the valley from where we had been growing grapes and making wine for eighteen years. We built a home and an 8 hectare vineyard - Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Tempranillo and Syrah.
Brinktop is an exceptional viticultural site ; it is almost at sea level and only a few kilometres away from Frederick Henry Bay. The vines are planted on steep, rocky slopes that face an ideal east northeast keeping harsh afternoon sun off the grapes; mineral rich dolerite soils deliver depth in fruit flavour; and summer afternoon sea breezes from the nearby ocean cool the site and aid in retaining perfume and freshness in the wines.
Our inspiration is the relationship between the vineyard and the wine we make from it. We pick our grapes by hand, and craft them into wine only metres away from the vines. We build on this relationship every vintage as the fruit expresses itself and teaches us what this site can deliver.

lutruwita (Tasmania)
We acknowledges theAboriginal people as the traditional owners of lutruwita (Tasmania), our island home. We thank and pay our respects to the Tasmanian Aboriginal communities, elders past and present and recognise their deep and spiritual connection to this amazing place.
We also thank the Iles family who farmed dairy cows, pigs and sheep on this land for almost 100 years and had an intimate relationship with the Brinktop (Killara Farm) dirt. We know how hard they worked and love the photos they have shared with us of the family at work on the farm.
